Beltestakk from Øst-Telemark


Belte (belt) stakk(skirt) has its name from the wide square-woven belt that surrounds the wearers waist many times.
From the 1840-ies a change that came gradually on the "Raudtrøye-bunad" (Red-shirt bunad) resulted to what we today know as Beltestakk from Øst-Telemark. Untill as long as the 1950-ies many elderly women in Norway used this as a festival costumes. Many younger women that wears this cotumes today, have copied their own grandmother`s costumes and thus a variety of colors and patterns appeared.

This edition of East-Telemark (Øst-Telemark) bunad builds upon the costume tradition from the first part of 1800. The name derives from the red skirt that was worn already from the early 1700. It is delivered in the exact same shape and colors as on picture .
